Green Roots for Positive Peace project is a Climate Action on Peace intervention designed to leverage and collaborate with Rotary entities and critical stakeholders to address the impact of climate change in Nigeria, through climate education and tree planting, and to mobilize funds for The Rotary Foundation (TRF) global Peace efforts.

The intervention which was designed to galvanize funds and provide an eco-friendly specie of Brazilian tree seedling for every N20,000 donated (credited) to The Rotary Foundation, was flagged-off on 1st November 2024, across the 36 States and Federal Capital Territory of Nigeria; with the Grand Finale ceremony scheduled for GIVING TUESDAY (3rd December 2024).

The inter-Country multi-sector grand event presented a unique opportunity for Rotary leaders to interface with the Government of Brazil and take possession of the donated tree seedlings.

PAG Anthonia Uwaigwe, Chair, Rotary International District 9127 Interact Committee, represented the host District Governor and gave a remark on his behalf; while Rtn. Hussain Abdulqadir enlightened participants on the Giving Tuesday initiative. Dr. Mrs Uduak from the Department of Climate Change, Federal Ministry of Environment, facilitated a session on “Climate Change Mitigation Strategies and the Importance of Trees in the Ecosystem”, while Rtn. Pietro Uzochukwu facilitated a session on “Positive Peace and the Environment.”

Participants were given a tour of the Brazilian Embassy, treated to a freshly brewed Brazilian ice tamarin juice and issued certificate of participation.

We are proud to announce that the total fund generated and credited to The Rotary Foundation through this initiative is NGN 3,602,000, and a participating Interactor secured a term scholarship from President RC Abuja Jabi Lakeside.
