Stitches of Abilities
The Rotary Club of Port Harcourt Cosmopolitan had the finale of the Stitches of Ability sewing contest at the Special Needs School, Creek Road, Borikiri on the 4th of December.
This project aimed to showcase the ability in disability given the opportunity to harness and nurture hidden talents of our special students through vocational skills and economic empowerment. The students proved that they are able to do much more than they are given credit for with only a couple of weeks training before the commencement of the Stitches of Ability competition.
The day was colored with singing, dancing, and acting performances by the lovely kids, further showcasing their numerous talents.
All participants got certificates of participation, medals, and fabrics while the first 3 were given trophies, and the overall winner got a sewing machine. Winners were
Joyful Barikor, 1st poition, 2nd, Favour Lucky and 3rd Chijoke Nomeh.
In attendance were District 9141 Governor, Chinedu Ikegwuani, representative of the Rivers State Commissioner for Education, Dr. Ovy Chinedum Chukwuma, members of the Rivers State Senior Senior Secondary Schools Board, President and members of the National Association of Special Education Teachers.
We acknowledge our Corporate Sponsors, Charles Dale Memorial International School and Bereton Montessori Schools who donated the trophies & Ivy Ivy Ayanaba Davies Etokakpan of Eve Afrique Business and News who ran the media coverage of the event at no expense to the club.
We also appreciate our professional judges, Daye D. DDE Clothings and Distinguished Options went further to offer a fully sponsored One Year training programme for the 3 winners.
