2020/2021 PROJECTS

The Rotary Club of Port Harcourt Cosmopolitan, in celebration of world polio day and keeping polio at zero in Nigerian and Africa, embarked on an immunization project of new born babies at the Churchill Health Center. There were also give away items such as 150 pieces of bathing kids and sanitary towels for nursing mothers.

The Rotary Club of Port Harcourt Cosmopolitan, embarked on a project that deals with our environment, tree planting on the Old Aba express way in front of Mini Okoro Police Station Port Harcourt. This happens to fall under our seven areas of focus in Rotary and it is also our social responsibility to our communities, indeed Rotary is service above self.

The Rotary Club of Port Harcourt Cosmopolitan, in partnership with Port Harcourt polo club and all the Rotary Clubs in Zone 22 embarked on a hands on project in celebration of polio day, and keeping polio @ Zero in Nigerian and  Africa. The project was commissioned by the DG who was ably represented by the DS Izuora Okafor. It was fun while it lasted,  indeed Rotary is good.

The Rotary Club of Port Harcourt Cosmopolitan today had a good outing in one of our areas of focus wish deals with economic, community development and empowerment. We embarked on a soft loan scheme to our community corps members of Oginigba in trans Amadi police barracks. These was to a tune of over N400,000. These were small business traders made up of women of the POWA in Port Harcourt to grow them into mega business. At the Rotary Club of Port Harcourt Cosmopolitan, we take lead.

As part of our commitment in ensuring our Rotaractors and Interactors are partners in service indeed, the Rotary Club of Port Harcourt Cosmopolitan embarked on a one day mentorship seminar for our youth, and vocational seminar. The speakers included a motivational speaker Rotaractor Kenneth Egenkike and PAG Ibim Semenitari respectively. Kenneth spoke on the importance of mentorship while Ibim talked about how we can use our vacation in service to Rotary. We had more than 25 members in attendance . In attendance were Rotarians, Rotaractors from Rotaract Club of Mills and Towers, Rotaract club of woji, Rotaract club of PH Gateway, interactors from Intaract club of faith Baptist. It was an enriching and educating seminar.

The Rotary Club of Port Harcourt Cosmopolitan in partnership with District 9141 and four other club embarked on a family health day program, that lasted for three days. This is a district program where we give and render free medical assistance to the less privilege in our communities . Some of the medical services we render include free testing and screening/ examination of different diseases, wish included HIV and hepatitis B and C , MP, and blood sugar level, cervical screening, free eye test and dental cleaning and examination etc. We also give out free drugs after diagnoses, free treated mosquito nets for nursing mother’s, sanitary pads, etc . Over 250 adults, infants and children benefited from this exercise Rotary indeed is good. 

Today the Rotary Club of Port Harcourt Cosmopolitan,  embarked on an awareness campaign in one of our areas of focus in rotary that deals on disease and prevention. The club did it in partnership with SCIMA, our Rotaract club of mills and towers, our Interactor club of faith Baptist school and our Interact club of eagle island at David Bassey Ikpema home. There was a speaker Dr Ibe on sickle cell awareness,  personal and environmental hygiene. There were more than 100 participants for the seminar. At the end of the seminar there was a distribution of 150 bath kits to the participants it was indeed an awesome time with our partners in service indeed rotary is good.

Fellow Rotarians, in continuation with our Empowerment and Skills acquisition program for Women of Oginigba (POWA) in Partnership with the Atsewete Foundation,  we today embarked on a five days program, on skills acquisition on baking and sewing, Indeed Rotary is good service above self.

The Rotary Club of Port Harcourt Cosmopolitan as part of her Celebration of Rotary at 116 years in service to humanity visited the David Bassey Children’s Home to spend time with the Children and Intaract Club Members of Eagle Island as part of its activities to mark the Celebration of the Rotary’s Birthday and it was a fun packed day Rotary Indeed is good.

The Rotary Club of Port Harcourt Cosmopolitan in celebration of the birth anniversary of Rotary international at 116 yrs today, and in carrying out one of the key areas of focus for the month of February which is peace management and conflict  resolution, went on an enlightenment campaign on Wave FM station to talk about Rotary and its emphasis for the month.

Taking the lead as always, as part of its Disease prevention and treatment focus, the Rotary Club of Port Harcourt Cosmopolitan embarked on a covid 19 vaccination monitoring in Port Harcourt today. At the Churchill primary health care centre, our club’s adopted health centre, we spoke with the NPHCA coordinator for Rivers state, Dr Ukpong who was pleased to see the Rotarians led by President  Steady Idisi. The state coordinator appealed to Rotary to help the agency reach out to more persons to ensure that they come out for the vaccine.
Rivers state received 150,000 doses for the first phase of the covid 19 immunization.
For us at the Rotary Club of PH Cosmopolitan,  the commitment to ensure that we keep COVID 19 at bay is strong.
The Cosmo team today included Assistant Regional Public Image Coordinator  for Zone 22 (Africa) PAG Ibim Semenitari, incoming President Rtn AH Alaribe Ogbonda, Rtn Victor Alete, Rtn Mayo Macdonald, Rtn Chris Horsfall and President Steady Idisi.
We are Cosmopolitans. We take the lead.

The Rotary Club of Port Harcourt Cosmopolitans embarked on one of our signature projects called pad a girl, we visited the government secondary school Orominike Diobu to talk to the students on personal hygiene and how to make sanitary pads locally. There were over 300 students and at the end the students were given sanitary pads and pant liners, the project cost about N75,000 and there were about 10 Rotarians in participation.

The Rotary Club of Port Harcourt Cosmopolitan in partnership with Rotary International embarked on a R.E.A.D project on the 22nd of March 2021, by donating eight carton of educational and recreational books to three different schools in Port Harcourt. The schools include the David Bassey children’s home, the Faith Baptist School and the school for special needs on creek road.
